In the year 1932, at the age of 14 and in the midst of the Great Depression, young Bill Drobness, living in Philadelphia, bought his first record... a start. His uncle Karl was fond of classical music and had an early influence on him. Thus began the Drobness Collection.
He continued collecting throughout his life, constantly expanding the collection. By the time of his death in 2000, William H. Drobness had become an accomplished audiophile and collector of the first rank.
The “Drobness Collection of Classical Music” is now being offered for sale by his Estate. It has recently been formally appraised by Dr. Steve Johnson, the foremost media appraiser in the United States. In his conclusions to the appraisal, Dr. Johnson categorized the Collection as “Trophy-Premium.”
The following pages display a general description of the Collection and excerpts from Dr. Johnson’s appraisal, covering various aspects of his research. Also included, online, is the complete catalog, with several sort options. The original catalog utilized the “Classic Collector” software, written by Lionel Kremer, with a Microsoft Access basis.
Prospective buyers will have the opportunity to examine the Collection prior to purchase.
Inquiries may be directed to Nelson A. Drobness, Executor of the Estate.
